Chapter 1

Lumumba wins freedom for Batanga and is crowned King Cayman II. Caetana gives birth to Tonho, and Dona Menina declares the baby is destined for greatness. Alika, the daughter of Niara and Cayman, is born. Jendal plots to seize Cayman's throne. Oruka foresees that King Cayman will be betrayed and that Batanga will fall into disgrace. Jendal offers to marry Alika and protect the kingdom.

Chapter 3

Chinua advises Cayman to flee with his family. Jendal overpowers Cayman and imprisons him alongside Niara and Alika, seizing the throne of Batanga. José tells Teresa that he misses Batanga. Mirinho arrives in Barro Preto during an official municipal event. Mirinho treats Tonho rudely. Virgínia becomes suspicious when Mirinho claims to have lost his wedding rings. Jendal orders the execution of Cayman and his family.

Chapter 4

Dumi asks Jendal for forgiveness and swears loyalty to the new king in exchange for his life. Mirinho reveals to Casemiro that he wants to move to Recife. Alika has a dream about the warrior who will save her. Mirinho promises to take Mundica to Recife. Casemiro confides in Tonho about Mirinho. Mirinho gives Virgínia a gift. Tonho talks to Mirinho about Casemiro's land.

Chapter 5

Alika agrees to marry Jendal to save her family's lives. Sebastião laments to Onildo that Virgínia only has eyes for Mirinho. Mirinho sounds out Virgínia about the possibility of her father investing in his new business. Alika assures Chinua that she will bring Jendal down. Cayman mentions to Niara that his brother Zambi never trusted Jendal. Mirinho demands that Tonho not interfere with his plans.

Chapter 6

Jendal badmouths Cayman to King Augusto and Queen Cesária. Tonho and Caetana discuss the wedding of Mirinho and Virgínia. Alika and Jendal get married at the palace. Alika, Cayman, and Niara flee with Omar. Before dying, Cayman asks Omar to help Niara and Alika reach Brazil and reveals that his brother Zambi abdicated the throne for a Brazilian commoner. Omar tells Alika and Niara to head to the beach.

Chapter 7

Niara explains to Alika that her uncle Zambi married a Brazilian woman. Jendal goes after Alika with his soldiers and finds Cayman's body. Alika and Niara manage to board a ship to Brazil. Alika vows to reclaim the throne of Batanga. Alika arrives in Brazil and runs into Tonho.

Chapter 8

The mayor celebrates the development of Barro Preto. The townspeople gather to welcome Virgínia. Bartô gives a speech. Mirinho arrives on horseback and courts his girlfriend; Virgínia is charmed. Tonho arrives with Niara and Alika. Tonho leaves Alika and Niara at José's house. Alika and Niara explain that Jendal is offering a reward for their heads.

Chapter 9

Omar is wounded and unconscious in prison, being treated by Chinua. Jendal plans to use him as a bargaining chip for Alika and Niara. José and Teresa vow to protect Alika and Niara. In Batanga, Pasha Soliman negotiates with Jendal for Omar's release in exchange for the whereabouts of Alika and Niara. Soliman demands to see Omar before revealing where Alika and Niara are. Jendal accepts Soliman's proposal.

Chapter 10

José and Teresa take note of Dona Menina's premonition; she asks Tonho to assist her with the ceremony for Cayman. Diógenes is concerned about Virgínia’s engagement to Mirinho. Dona Menina tells Tonho that Lúcia/Alika is his link to the past. Mirinho tries to get closer to Lúcia/Alika and Vera/Niara. Paxá Soliman assures Dumi that, in order to save Omar, he will reveal Alika's whereabouts.

Chapter 11

Tonho suspects that Lúcia/Alika might be his sister. Mirinho hides his interest in Lúcia/Alika from Virgínia. Tonho probes Lúcia/Alika to investigate a possible family connection between them. Tonho talks to Dona Menina about his past. Caetana fears she has been betrayed by Antônio. Alika writes to Dumi. Ngozi is struck during the clash between the miners and Jendal's royal guard.

Chapter 12

Salma confesses her love for Tonho to Father Viriato. Fátima tries to convince Salma to forget Tonho and follow her family's traditions. Alika is bothered by thoughts of Tonho. Mirinho overhears Casemiro instructing Tonho to retrieve the briefcase containing the employees' wages, and gets an idea. Virgínia offers a job to Lúcia/Alika.

Chapter 13

Lúcia/Alika rejects Virgínia's proposal, and Tonho questions her about it. Mirinho hides the bag containing the employees' money in order to frame Tonho in front of Casemiro. Tonho realizes the bag is missing and alerts everyone. Fortunato states that he will investigate the disappearance of the bag containing Casemiro's money. Tonho tries to use his savings to reimburse Casemiro, who refuses to accept the money.

Chapter 14

Mundica demands that Mirinho take her to the ball. In Batanga, Soliman welcomes the Turkish doctor who will treat Omar. Tonho catches Mundica hiding the briefcase. Mundica returns the briefcase to Casemiro and snitches on Mirinho. Tonho confronts Mirinho. ‘Lúcia’ hits back at Virgínia’s taunts and prejudices. Accompanied by her mother and uncles, Lúcia (Alika) makes a stunning appearance at the ball, wearing Batanga jewelry.

Chapter 15

Virgínia demands that Alika (Lúcia) be thrown out of the dance; Alika reacts indignantly. Mirinho announces that she is his guest and asks her to dance. Virgínia is furious. Back at the sugar mill, Mundica laments not being able to attend the dance and dances with Ciço. Mirinho harasses Alika and grabs her by the arm. Tonho comes to Alika's defense. Mirinho shoves him, and Tonho shoves back. Mirinho falls to the ground. Everyone reacts. Fortunato arrests Tonho.

Chapter 16

Tonho and Alika kiss, but he breaks it off when he remembers Dona Menina's prophecy. The doctor begins Omar's surgery. Soliman prays in anguish, and Chinua comforts him. José, Alika, Niara, and Teresa discuss Tonho's imprisonment. Alika reveals to her mother that she kissed Tonho and wonders if he might be the warrior of her dreams. Mirinho apologizes to Alika, who challenges him to free Tonho.

Chapter 17

Virgínia breaks up with Mirinho for good. Mirinho confronts Tonho. Grace pressures her son to go after his fiancée. Jendal waits for Omar to recover so he can extract information from him about Alika and Niara. Tonho tells Alika about Dona Menina’s prophecy and the suspicion that they are siblings. Alika tells her uncle about recurring dreams involving a mysterious warrior, suspecting it might be Omar or Tonho.

Chapter 18

Virgínia threatens Lúcia/Alika, who confides in Salma. Lúcia/Alika goes with Tonho to Dona Menina's house, where she confirms that the two are not siblings. Alika confesses to Teresa that Tonho has stirred her heart. Guided by Graça, Mirinho wins Virgínia back, leaving Sebastião disappointed. Tonho declares his feelings for Lúcia/Alika.

Chapter 19

Alika and Tonho kiss. Tonho drops Alika off at home, injured. Niara and Maria Helena collect signatures for a petition supporting a school in Barro Preto. Marta gets annoyed by Virgínia’s spitefulness toward Alika. Dumi convinces Jendal not to use violence to suppress the miners' protests. Mirinho and Casemiro discuss the jewelry store robbery in São Paulo. Tonho and Alika think about each other.

Chapter 20

Alika reads Dumi's letter. Jendal sees Dumi receiving a note from Ladisa, Ngozi's widow. Alika tells her mother about Dumi's letter. Jendal orders Akin's arrest and commands Dumi to throw him into the snake pit at dawn. Dumi and Akin are terrified. Alika and José negotiate the pawning of the jewelry with Diógenes, who is delighted with the pieces. Dumi throws Akin into the snake pit.

Chapter 21

Jendal forces Dumi to look into the snake pit where Akin was thrown. Alika reiterates to her mother that she likes Tonho but cannot get involved with him. Virgínia recalls a news story about a jewelry theft in São Paulo. Sebastião takes it upon himself to spread the lie throughout the town. Miguel decides against renting the house where Alika planned to set up her studio. The police chief announces that he has called in the police to investigate them.

Chapter 22

Alika deduces that Virgínia conspired against her. Mirinho is pleased to learn that Virgínia is jealous of him. Jendal acknowledges Dumi's loyalty. Chinua manages to save Akin, who plots with Dumi to deceive Jendal. Alika is moved by Tonho's support. Everyone in town rejects Niara and Alika, and Viriato reprimands the townspeople. Salma and Ana Maria support Lúcia/Alika. Alika confronts Virgínia.

Chapter 23

Alika confronts Virgínia and upstages her in front of everyone. Mirinho reacts jealously upon seeing Tonho dancing with Alika. Mirinho corners Alika and says he can help her escape the police. In Batanga, Jendal dreams of Alika and Omar. Jendal pressures Soliman to reveal the whereabouts of Alika and Niara; Soliman refuses, and Jendal orders his arrest. Graça and Virgínia meet the inspector from São Paulo at the station.

Chapter 24

Botelho accepts the deal with Graça and Virgínia. Adônis grows suspicious upon seeing the inspector in their company. Adônis goes to José's house to pick up Lúcia/Alika and Vera/Niara for the confrontation regarding the jewels at the police station. Mundica reveals that it was Mirinho who sabotaged Tonho's wagon. Jendal discovers that Soliman's ship has been looted. Akin and other locals celebrate Soliman's support for the revolution.

Chapter 25

Botelho states that Alika and Niara's jewelry is not the same as the pieces stolen in São Paulo, clearing both women of suspicion. Virgínia is outraged, while Diógenes grows suspicious. Lúcia/Alika tells Diógenes that he deserves an apology from Virgínia. Mirinho decides to collect the bribe money that Botelho accepted. Omar wakes up, and Chinua and Çinar celebrate. Salma sees Tonho and Lúcia/Alika together.

Chapter 26

Salma apologizes to Alika and Tonho and leaves, feeling embarrassed. In Batanga, Jendal inspects the mines with the British. Casemiro tells Ana Maria about the bribe involving Graça and Virgínia. Mirinho reaffirms to Manoel that he is going to win Alika over. Alika confesses to Salma that Tonho has declared his feelings for her. Mirinho corners Alika to apologize. Omar and Soliman have an emotional reunion.

Chapter 27

Jendal is devastated upon learning of Soliman's death. Burak offers a prayer in the Pasha's honor. Tonho and Mrs. Menina help Isaura give birth to her son. Jendal orders Soliman's crew to continue working in Batanga. Çinar is displeased to learn he must leave Omar in Batanga in Chinua's care. Vera/Niara and Maria Helena hand Bartô the petition for the school's reconstruction.

Chapter 28

Alika vows to take revenge on Jendal and clear Cayman's name. Adalgisa and Mirinho throw Virgínia off the trail. Omar wakes up calling out for Alika, infuriating Jendal. Adalgisa makes a pass at Mirinho. Onildo grows suspicious of Vera. Alika and Niara consider going to Rio de Janeiro to seek support for the intervention in Batanga. Virgínia and Lúcia/Alika run into each other at the train station.

Chapter 29

Alika assures her family that she will only return to Barro Preto after speaking with Nilo Peçanha. Eugênia feels unwell after getting stuck in the elevator, and Lúcia/Alika helps her. Mirinho tries to kiss Lúcia/Alika and ends up being struck by her. Tonho believes Lúcia/Alika is involved with another man. Lúcia/Alika and her family arrive for dinner with Eugênia and Eustáquio, and Virgínia and Marta are annoyed.

Chapter 30

Lúcia/Alika and her family arrive for dinner with Eugênia and Eustáquio, and Virgínia and Marta are annoyed. Ladisa tells Akin she will never forget that it was Dumi who attacked her husband. Jendal hints to the British that he needs to marry off his daughter, and Mr. Campbell suggests that Mr. Jones court Kênia. Eustáquio praises Lúcia/Alika’s business acumen. Niara notices that Alika felt jealous regarding Tonho.

Chapter 31

Omar tells Dumi he will avenge his father's death. Kênia agrees to a relationship of convenience with Mr. Jones but sets conditions. Alika and Niara reveal their true identities to Leopoldo in order to rally support for Batanga. Casemiro advises Tonho not to give up on Lúcia/Alika. Lúcia/Alika reveals to Tonho that she is married.

Chapter 32

Lúcia/Alika explains to Tonho that her husband is a bad man and that she had to flee from him to protect herself. Akin and Dumi state that they must stop the wedding between Kênia and Mr. Jones. Virgínia is distressed to realize that everyone thinks Eugênia is more beautiful than she is. Graça comes up with a plan to sabotage the beauty contest in Virgínia's favor. Graça and Virgínia prepare to sabotage Eugênia.

Chapter 33

Graça claims that, after sabotaging Eugênia's dress, Virgínia will win the beauty contest. Everyone in Barro Preto prepares for Virgínia's victory. Onildo probes José about his family's origins. Dumi reinforces the importance of stopping the marriage between Kênia and Mr. Jones. Omar vows to avenge Soliman's death. Ana Maria tells Januário that she has feelings for Vitalino.

Chapter 34

Eugênia hesitates to wear the dress made by Lúcia/Alika. Jendal announces the wedding date for Kênia and Mr. Jones. Kênia finalizes her financial agreement with Mr. Campbell. Virgínia and the other contestants are surprised when Eugênia appears wearing the dress made by Lúcia/Alika. Viriato advises Salma to give Fuad's love a chance. Eugênia wins the contest, and Lúcia/Alika celebrates with Tonho.

Virgínia is furious over Eugênia's victory, and Marta tries to comfort her daughter. Lúcia/Alika's dress is a hit with the journalists attending the contest. Casemiro discovers that Graça sabotaged Eugênia's dress and reprimands his wife. Virgínia and Graça vow revenge against Lúcia/Alika. Salma disapproves of Fuad's behavior in her home. Casemiro encourages Tonho to fight for Lúcia/Alika.

Chapter 36

Lúcia/Alika reveals to Tonho that she used to dream about him even before meeting him. Tonho asks Lúcia/Alika to be his girlfriend, and Niara makes her daughter promise not to reveal their true identities to him. Bartô welcomes Virgínia back with a party, and everyone is surprised to learn that she did not win the contest in Rio de Janeiro. Jendal breaks into Omar's room and makes threats, and Omar opens his eyes.

Chapter 37

Alika reveals to Nilo Peçanha that Jendal has staged a coup in Batanga. Nilo warns Alika about the power of the British backing Jendal and assures the young woman that he will not reveal her identity. Jendal issues a notice offering a reward to anyone who discovers Alika's whereabouts. Mundica scolds Mirinho for his lack of attentiveness.

Chapter 38

Jendal disapproves of the way Kênia is handling preparations for her wedding to Mr. Jones. Dumi, Akin, and Ladisa organize to fight against Jendal. Chinua advises Omar to wait for the right moment to confront Jendal. Casemiro asks Graça to trust Ana Maria. Januário and Manoel watch Ana Maria with interest. Viriato warns Manoel about Ana Maria.

Chapter 39

Mirinho provokes Tonho. Alika tells José that Nilo Peçanha remembered his uncle. Fabrício arrives at Casemiro's house. Tonho reveals to Casemiro that he is dating Alika/Lúcia. Mirinho and Tonho confront each other at the farm. Alika/Lúcia confides in Salma that she is involved with Tonho and asks her friend for forgiveness. Mirinho causes an accident involving Tonho, and Fabrício is alarmed.

Chapter 40

Onildo calls for help on the road to assist Tonho, and Fabrício forces Mirinho to stop his car. Alika/Lúcia accuses Mirinho of attacking Tonho. Alika/Lúcia tends to Tonho alongside Onildo and encourages her boyfriend to recall how the accident happened. Onildo informs José, Teresa, and Niara/Vera about what happened to Tonho and says that Alika/Lúcia will stay with the young man. Onildo probes Niara/Vera for information.

Chapter 41

Mr. Jones yields to threats from Akin and Ladisa, who demand the cancellation of his wedding to Kênia. Casemiro tells Mirinho he will disinherit him if his son does anything against Tonho again. With Burak's help, Ladisa and Akin get rid of Mr. Jones. Kênia and Jendal demand that Mr. Jones be found so the wedding ceremony can begin. Kênia discovers that Mr. Jones has vanished and faints.

Chapter 42

Kênia admits to Jendal that she schemed to gain advantages from her marriage. Mirinho decides to propose a truce to Tonho, while Casemiro orders his son to stay away from the young man's girlfriend for good. Dumi comforts Kênia, and she ends up kissing the guard; Dumi is surprised by his own feelings for her. King George discovers the ruse regarding Mr. Jones's funeral but decides to compensate Kênia upon learning that the Englishman has fled.

Chapter 43

Chinua and Dumi believe they will face retaliation from Jendal over Omar's escape. Virgínia considers scheduling her engagement for the same day as the opening of Alika/Lúcia's studio. Jendal leads the search for Omar. Jendal threatens Burak over Omar's escape, and Dumi takes responsibility for the incident to save him.

Chapter 44

Dumi takes the blame for Omar's escape. Onildo becomes suspicious when Alika/Lúcia shows knowledge of a foreign saint. Niara/Vera and Maria Helena press Bartô about the school renovation. Diógenes agrees to invest in Mirinho and Fabrício's business after the engagement. Omar secretly breaks into the palace and threatens Jendal with a dagger.

Chapter 45

Omar strikes Jendal, but Dumi disarms the Turk and rushes to the aid of the King of Batanga. Kênia is distraught over her father's condition. Omar flees, and Chinua tends to Jendal's wound. Omar meets Akin and claims to have taken Jendal's life. Ladisa celebrates Omar's alleged feat, while Akin worries about Dumi. Carrapato disguises himself as Viriato, and Miguel finds it odd.

Chapter 46

Dumi assures Akin, Omar, and Ladisa that Princess Alika would not approve of Jendal's execution. Viriato scolds Carrapato for wearing his cassock. Virgínia and her family prepare for her engagement party with Mirinho. José manages to change the date of the opening of Alika's studio. Omar asks Dumi for forgiveness for his impulsive behavior toward Jendal. Maria Helena considers a way to make the school a reality.

Chapter 47

Jendal turns down Kênia's request. Alika confesses to Teresa that she does not believe in Mirinho's good intentions. Casemiro forces Mirinho to stay involved with the reopening of the school. Fabrício advises Mirinho on how to approach Alika/Lúcia. Dumi decides to run away and says goodbye to Kênia. Jendal sees Kênia and Dumi kissing.

Chapter 48

Jendal reprimands Kênia and imprisons Dumi. José is attacked by Mirinho’s henchmen. Mirinho interrupts the staged mugging of José and poses as his savior. Alika/Lúcia tends to Mirinho, who dislocated his shoulder while supposedly saving José. Virgínia rescues Mirinho from Alika/Lúcia’s house. Kênia is overcome with despair upon realizing that Dumi is to be executed. Jendal surprises everyone and pardons Dumi.

Chapter 49

Jendal forgives Dumi but forbids Kênia from having a relationship with the guard. Chinua comforts Kênia, who is suffering over her love for Dumi. Kênia assures Jendal that she will not marry another man. Alika confesses to Niara that she feels indebted to Mirinho for the help he gave her mother. Salma does not believe in Mirinho's good behavior. Virgínia sabotages the invitations for the studio's opening.

Chapter 50

Sebastião tries to put out the fire Virgínia started with the invitations. Tonho finds Casemiro’s lack of response odd and worries about missing the opening of Alika/Lúcia’s studio. Virgínia confronts Mirinho about helping Alika/Lúcia and Niara/Vera, and Fabrício covers for his friend. Kênia flees the palace to meet Dumi, who declares that he does not love the princess.

Chapter 51

Jendal forgives Imani for her lies; she had posed as Alika to meet the king. Graça is shocked by Ana Maria's behavior. Belmira mentions to Salma that Virgínia insists on missing the opening of Alika/Lúcia's studio. Fuad visits Salma. Alika worries that Tonho won't arrive in time for her event. Imani seduces Jendal.

Chapter 52

Alika/Lúcia explains to Tonho that people did not show up for the studio's opening party. Mirinho gets annoyed when he sees Tonho with Alika/Lúcia. Alika/Lúcia and Tonho spend their first night together. Viriato questions Sebastião about the delivery of the invitations for the studio opening. Aurelinda reveals to Marta and Diógenes that Virgínia sabotaged Alika/Lúcia's invitations.

Chapter 53

José tells Alika that she will put him at risk if she reveals the truth to Tonho. Graça encourages Mirinho to focus on his marriage to Virgínia. Pascoal warns Imani about Kênia. Dumi informs Burak that an escape plan for Omar will soon be put into action. Diógenes and Marta consider how to reprimand Virgínia for her behavior toward Alika/Lúcia. Marta orders dresses from the atelier.

Chapter 54

Alika/Lúcia refuses to accept Tonho’s suspicions, even though he insists he will wait for her. Imani begs Jendal and Kênia to believe in her innocence following the setup orchestrated by Pascoal. Alika/Lúcia confides in Salma about her argument with Tonho. Carrapato assures Viriato that he will not give up on revealing himself as Belmira’s father. Alika celebrates a newspaper headline: “The Truth About Batanga.”

Chapter 55

Pascoal accepts Jendal's proposal to keep an eye on Dumi. Dumi warns Akin, Omar, and Ladisa about Jendal's suspicions. Alika celebrates with Niara over the article Nilo Peçanha wrote about Batanga, while missing Tonho. Diógenes grants the loan to Mirinho after a contract is signed guaranteeing the young man's marriage to Virgínia.

Chapter 56

With the help of the rebels, Omar and Burak manage to escape. Pascoal informs Jendal that a rebellion is underway and that Dumi has disappeared. Chinua assures Jendal that he knows nothing about Dumi's whereabouts. Mr. Campbell tells Pascoal that he recognized Akin as one of the movement's leaders. Jendal is furious to learn that Omar has escaped and appoints Pascoal as the new head of the Royal Guard. Omar plans to reunite with Alika.

Chapter 57

Alika has a revealing dream about Tonho. The day of Mirinho and Virgínia's engagement arrives. Fabrício and Mirinho celebrate the launch of their investment. Alika reveals to Tonho that she is the Princess of Batanga. Alika shares her story with Tonho, who is enchanted to learn that his beloved is a real princess. Everyone prepares for Mirinho and Virgínia's engagement party in Barro Preto.

Chapter 58

Mr. Campbell alerts Jendal about the newspaper article written by Nilo Peçanha, and the king deduces that Alika is in Brazil. Chinua tries to dissuade Jendal from searching for Alika in Brazil. Niara and Alika are pleased with how Tonho is handling their secret. Dona Menina supports Tonho. Mundica warns Mirinho about Fabrício's escape. Mirinho is overcome with despair upon realizing he has been swindled.

Chapter 59

Mirinho panics upon realizing he has been scammed by his former business partner. Diógenes is distraught over Fabrício’s escape, and Graça tries to calm the businessman down. Tonho reflects on his differences with Alika. Dumi worries about Jendal’s conclusion regarding Alika’s whereabouts. Mirinho confesses to Casemiro that he didn’t know Fabrício very well. Carrapato puts on Viriato’s cassock and presents himself to Belmira.

Chapter 60

Malungo assures Jendal that he will bring Alika back to Batanga. Everyone finds Viriato's behavior strange, without realizing that he is Carrapato in disguise. Miguel and Fátima reprimand Salma's attitude at the engagement party, but Fuad doesn't care. Pascoal has new information about Dumi's whereabouts. Dumi tells Akin and Ladisa that he wrote to Alika.

Chapter 61

Tonho and Alika decide to pursue their love and see what the future holds for them. Januário confides in Dona Menina about Ana Maria's interest in Manoel. Pascoal confronts Akin about Dumi's whereabouts; Dumi manages to escape the Royal Guard. Belmira worries about Viriato's behavior, unaware that it is actually Carrapato. Virgínia suffers from being apart from Mirinho.

Chapter 62

Marta rebukes Virgínia's attacks on Alika/Lúcia. Eustáquio and Eugênia guarantee that they will publicize Alika/Lúcia and Teresa's studio. Tonho informs Casemiro about the health status of the mill workers, and summons Onildo. Dôra suggests promoting a fashion show at Grêmio Recreativo, in order to promote the city and Lúcia's studio. Mr.Campbell alerts Jendal to international distrust.

Chapter 63

Chinua announces the arrival of Danish donations for the people of Batanga. Belmira catches Viriato with Carrapato. Jendal orders Pascoal to set fire to the donations received from Denmark. Kênia is distressed by Jendal's actions and believes she saw Dumi among the crowd. Belmira discovers that her father is a "cangaceiro". Alika declares her pride in Tonho's actions. Graça offers advice to Mirinho.

Chapter 64

Fortunato summons Diógenes, Casemiro, and Mirinho to the police station and announces that Fabrício is a con artist. Virgínia offers to model for Alika/Lúcia’s brand.
