Chapter 1

Carolina is lost in thought. Augusto helps a runaway slave escape and now needs to hide him. Felipe invites his friends to a party in Paquetá.

Chapter 3

Augusto asks Felipe for help. Augusto visits his father, but finds his distant behavior strange. Fabrício asks Augusto for a favor to deal with Joana. Simão is discovered.

Chapter 4

Rafael opens the barrel. Carolina and Clementina are anxious for the students to arrive. Gustavo tricks Dona Lalá. João Bala threatens Juca. Augusto sees Carolina.

Chapter 5

Carolina and Augusto are introduced. Felipe makes a request to his grandmother. Felipe and Clementina go for a walk. João Bala orders the boarding house to be watched. Carolina and Felipe don't like what they see.

Chapter 6

Felipe gives up on talking to his grandmother. Gustavo and Fabrício try to help Simão. Clementina is reprimanded by some of her friends. Augusto tries to get Felipe to shift his focus away from Clementina.

Chapter 7

João Bala and his men surround the boarding house. Felipe can't stop talking about Clementina. Leopoldo is discharged from the hospital. Dona Lalá is puzzled by Rafael's delay. Fabricio interrogates Rafael.

Chapter 8

Gustavo puts his plan into action. João Bala gets angry. The students begin planning their trip to Paquetá. Juca sends a message to Felipe. Leopoldo introduces his slave.

Chapter 9

Duda discovers the truth about Simão. Carolina tells her brother to forget Clementina. Fabrício tries to find out Augusto's romantic interest. João Bala insists on finding Simão.

Chapter 10

Carolina discovers Simão's secret. Fabrício and Augusto travel, and João Bala plans to go after them. The boys make a bet with Augusto. Joana and Fabrício meet.

Chapter 11

Joana falls for Fabrício's plan, and he uses it as an excuse to break up with her. The girls hatch a plan to teach him a lesson. Clementina pursues Augusto and becomes furious with him.

Chapter 12

Felipe and Augusto are desperate about the doctor Donana sent. Augusto and Carolina make a deal. Fabrício gets rejected by all the girls. André reveals a secret to Gustavo.

Chapter 13

Gustavo considers joining the Masonic group. Fabrício decides to pursue the last girl he has left: Carolina. Joana and Leopoldo talk. Felipe refuses to leave his room.

Chapter 14

Augusto tells Felipe to forget about Clementina. Fabrício uses all his resources to win Carolina over, but fails. Fabrício and Augusto make a bet about the girl.

Chapter 15

Donana questions Augusto about his closeness to Carolina. Marina hatches a plan to get Kleberc and Violante together, and the boys help. Simão is discovered by Tobias.

Chapter 16

Donana finds Felipe's behavior strange. Augusto hints at an interest in Carolina. Leopoldo falls ill and is examined by André, who goes to Paquetá.

Chapter 17

André decides to take Simão with him. Clementina asks Felipe for help to stay with Augusto. André makes a proposal to Leopoldo. Fabrício tells Carolina about the bet with Augusto.

Chapter 18

João Bala arrives in Paquetá. Quininha becomes interested in Leopoldo. Gustavo and Juca wonder about João Bala's whereabouts. Carolina rejects Augusto. Clementina looks for Augusto.

Chapter 19

Felipe encounters João Bala and warns the others. Fabrício tells Clementina about the bet. João Bala interrogates Duda. Joana and Quininha compete for Leopoldo. João Bala lies in wait.

Chapter 20

Felipe tells his grandmother about Simão. Donana surprises her grandson. Carolina and Augusto have different views on love. Marina steals a kiss from Felipe. João Bala spots André.

Chapter 21

After receiving some information, André becomes alert. Clementina provokes Carolina. Augusto gets jealous of Carolina. Simão is bitten by a snake. Duda finds Simão.

Chapter 22

Augusto is bothered to see Fabrício and Carolina. Leopoldo and Augusto learn about Simão's condition. Augusto takes Duda to Rio de Janeiro. Gustavo manages to deceive Dona Lalá.

Chapter 23

Tobias does as agreed with his bosses. Joana confronts Leopoldo. João Bala corners Carolina and attacks Felipe. Luiza suspects Mariana's identity.

Chapter 24

Luiza confronts Leopoldo and bombards him with questions about his supposed slave. Marina asks Clementina to visit Felipe. Joana catches Quininha kissing Leopoldo.

Chapter 25

Luiza makes a request to Leopoldo. Gustavo organizes a tribute to Aimmè. João Bala's henchman finds Simão. Juca, pressured by João Bala, ends up saying too much.

Chapter 26

Fabrício takes Simão away from Paquetá. André takes João Bala to his henchman and tries to confuse him with lies. Donana tells everyone that Simão was there, and Luiza is not happy.

Chapter 27

Simão reunites with Duda. Fabrício tells Augusto that he's going back to Paquetá to ask Carolina to marry him. Clementina says something that leaves Felipe devastated. João Bala returns.

Chapter 28

João Bala arrives in Rio de Janeiro determined to find Simão. Fabrício decides to stay in Rio. Joana makes a tempting offer to Leopoldo. Augusto returns to Paquetá.

Chapter 29

Marina manages to capture Felipe's attention, but everything changes with Clementina's arrival. Gustavo is impressed by a new baron in town. Felipe makes a decision that worries Donana.

Chapter 30

Donana talks to Augusto, and he tells her details about his past love. João Bala continues to threaten Juca. Quininha makes a decision regarding Leopoldo.

Chapter 31

João Bala becomes a laughingstock. Duda refuses to return to Paquetá. Luiza decides to keep her daughter away from Leopoldo, and the young man is outraged. Gustavo obtains a diamond necklace.

Chapter 32

Gustavo is distressed after carrying out his scheme. Leopoldo bids farewell to everyone in Paquetá. João Bala becomes suspicious of André and goes to his house.

Chapter 33

Fabrício decides to return to Paquetá. Felipe surprises everyone by announcing an engagement. Augusto tries to get closer to Carolina. Clementina criticizes the boy's attitude.

Chapter 34

Duda is startled when she looks out the window. Augusto and Felipe talk about Clementina. João Bala breaks into André's house. Leopoldo gets a job. Fabrício proposes to Carolina.

Chapter 35

Gustavo gives Aimeé a necklace. The atmosphere at the engagement party is strange. Donana sends Luiza to Rio de Janeiro. Leopoldo learns about Simão's hiding place. Augusto looks for Fabrício.

Chapter 36

Luiza visits André, who invites her to something. Simão is discovered. Joana and Quininha make peace. Carolina and Augusto provoke jealousy in each other. Felipe gets bored in Paquetá.

Luiza asks André about Simão. Donana notices her grandson acting strangely. Duda makes a face. Augusto realizes his brief is missing. Luiza is bothered when she hears about marriage.

João Bala attacks Felipe. Tobias tries to cheer Duda up. Carolina and Clementina fight. Juca betrays Simão. Leopoldo and Gustavo try to save Simão. Duda has a premonition.

Simão is captured. Leopoldo writes a review in the newspaper. João Bala erects a pillory to whip the boy. Augusto takes advantage of a joke at the picnic and kisses Carolina.

Chapter 40

Carolina and Augusto risk being caught together. Carolina finds a brief on the floor and insists on knowing who it belongs to. Leopoldo writes to Quininha.

Chapter 41

Carolina opens Augusto's briefcase and is surprised. Marina decides to go to Rio de Janeiro. Gustavo discovers that Aimée had an affair with Fabrício. Duda finds out about Simão.

Chapter 42

Duda tells Carolina a secret. João Bala threatens Leopoldo. Carolina tries to find out who owns the brief. Marina goes to the Estrela guesthouse looking for Felipe.

Chapter 43

Marina is disappointed when she meets Felipe and makes a decision. Tobias meets Aimée. Fabrício finds Augusto's emerald. Carolina begs Clementina to do her a favor.

Chapter 44

João Bala accuses Gustavo of forging Simão's manumission papers. Everyone is surprised by Marina's sudden return. Fabrício tries to find out the history of Augusto's emerald.

Chapter 45

Leopoldo is late returning from prison, worrying André. Felipe plots something to provoke hatred within the family. Fabrício appropriates Augusto's story and lies to Carolina.

Chapter 46

Augusto feels jealous when he sees Fabrício with Carolina. Despite Fabrício's lie, Carolina finds it hard to believe that he is the boy from her childhood. João Bala sees Leopoldo in disguise.

Chapter 47

João Bala is suspicious of the friar. Gustavo is worried about Felipe. Donana sends a letter. Felipe arrives on the island accompanied and causes a stir. Fabrício's reaction is strange.

Chapter 48

Fabrício makes up an excuse to avoid seeing Aimeé. Felipe is secretive about his friend. Everyone has a different reaction upon seeing Aimeé. André updates Leopoldo on Simão.

Chapter 49

Donana calls André to see his grandson. Gustavo leaves Fabrício suspicious. João Bala discovers enigmatic holy cards. André examines Felipe. Leopoldo is arrested.

Chapter 50

Gustavo and Lalá are distraught over Leopoldo's arrest. Felipe confronts his sister. Clementina surprises Carolina. Augusto learns about his friend's health.

Chapter 51

Carolina brings her brother back to reality. Duda dreams of a future with Simão. André intercedes for Quininha and Leopoldo. Dona Lalá lends Gustavo more money.

Chapter 52

Augusto steals a kiss from Carolina, and Kleberc witnesses the scene. Upon discovering that Leopoldo has been arrested, Luiza forbids Quininha's wedding. Fabrício decides to speed up his wedding.

Chapter 53

Quininha runs away to André's house, and he tells her his secret. Felipe tells Augusto that he wants to declare his feelings to Clementina. Gustavo is in danger because of his scam with the jeweler.

Chapter 54

Felipe threatens to confess his feelings to Clementina when she interrupts him, and the two argue. Fabrício makes a proposal to Clementina. Leopoldo creates a commotion to help Simão escape.

Chapter 55

Simão manages to free himself, and João Bala relentlessly pursues the slave. Augusto resolves the matter at court and informs Carolina. Leopoldo is flogged because of Simão's escape.

Chapter 56

Leopoldo's condition worries João Bala, who decides to release the boy. Fabrício and Augusto return from Paquetá. André lets Quininha stay in Rio for another day.

Chapter 57

Duda discovers that Simão has run away. André tells Augusto about his secret. Quininha and Leopoldo reunite, but he notices his beloved is distressed. João Bala kidnaps Quininha.

Chapter 58

Gustavo asks Augusto and Leopoldo for help. Carolina is undecided and Mariana advises her. Felipe grabs Clementina. André looks for Quininha. Gustavo doesn't pay his debt.

Duda waits for Simão. André tells Luiza about their daughter's disappearance. Luiza goes to confront Leopoldo. Simão arrives at his destination. João Bala pretends not to understand.

André tries to calm Luiza down. André asks Gustavo for help. Felipe finds out what's happening. João Bala pretends not to understand. Violante speculates about Augusto's return.

Joana goes to Rio de Janeiro. Duda finds Augusto's return to Paquetá strange. Felipe questions Duda. Carolina stands Augusto up. Luiza insists on talking to João Bala.

Simão wants to go for a walk, but Duda is afraid. Duda overhears a conversation between Donana and Augusto. Benjamin gives André some news. Felipe and Augusto receive a letter. Clementina falls off her horse.

Leopoldo reads Quininha's letter. Gustavo proposes to Dona Lalá. Augusto declares his love for Carolina. André tells João Bala about his suspicions. Violante is scandalized.

Duda lies to Donana. Clementina gets annoyed with Augusto. Leopoldo goes to talk to João Bala. Augusto asks Felipe for help with Carolina. Fabricio receives Clementina's letter.

Violante tells Donana about Augusto and Carolina. Tobias suspects that Simão is alive. Aimée receives an unexpected visit and asks Fabrício for money. Tobias surprises Duda.

Tobias discovers that Simão is alive. Clementina tells Carolina that Fabrício is returning to Paquetá. Augusto celebrates his engagement, but continues to think about Aimée.

Chapter 67

Fabrício returns to Paquetá, but the young man is shrewd and prevents Carolina from ending the engagement. Augusto is distressed. Gustavo tells Aimée that she needs to return the necklace.

Chapter 68

Tobias insists that Duda tell Simão the truth. Carolina and Fabrício talk, and she makes a decision about their engagement. Carolina tells Marina a secret.

Chapter 69

Duda tells Simão about Quininha's kidnapping. Carolina tells Augusto that she's going to marry Fabrício, but after thinking about it, she changes her mind. Simão makes a decision.

Chapter 70

Simão reveals himself in the hope of saving Quininha. Augusto returns to Rio with Simão. Carolina confides in Felipe about Augusto and decides to break off their engagement.

Chapter 71

Luiza and Joana finally find Quininha. Luiza demands that Leopoldo stay away from her daughter. João Bala tortures Simão. Quininha makes a decision.

Chapter 72

Leopoldo and Augusto pressure Jerônimo and poison him against João Bala. Carolina remains firm in her decision. Felipe decides to go to São Paulo. Quininha meets Leopoldo.

Chapter 73

Quininha has a serious conversation with Leopoldo and makes a decision. Students begin to protest in favor of Simão. Joana advises Carolina. João Bala hatches a new plan against Simão.

Chapter 74

João Bala forces Juca to participate in his plans. André is suspicious of João Bala's actions. Kleberc makes a proposal to Violante. The count arrives at the Court looking for Aimmè.

Chapter 75

João Bala threatens Juca. Gustavo is scared. Quininha tries to talk to Duda. Fabricio asks Donana for help. Aimée hands over the jewel. A crowd gathers in front of the tavern.

Chapter 76

Jeronimo doesn't give João Bala what he found. Gustavo receives visitors. Felipe wants a farewell party. Leopoldo and Augusto make a proposal to Jeronimo.

Chapter 77

Gustavo is arrested. João Bala threatens Jeronimo. Benjamin receives instructions for Simão's escape. Fabrício gets confused when talking about the brief. Leopoldo tries to buy time.

Chapter 78

Jerônimo saves Simão. Jerônimo betrays João Bala. Leopoldo finds João Bala. Augusto returns to Paquetá. Clementina blames Felipe for the end of her engagement. Aimée is surprised.

Chapter 79

Felipe says goodbye. Leopoldo updates Felipe and Fabrício on the events. Gustavo is released. Simão and Tobias are granted their freedom. Carolina and Augusto get married and make a discovery.
