Six strangers gather in a house in Karuizawa. Aged 19 to 31, they've got one thing in common: they'll be living together in a beautiful town.
As everyone settles in, Yuudai shows off his cooking skills. When some members go out to lunch, he seems to hit it off with one girl in particular.
In the midst of discussing their dreams for the future, Shion gives Ami some advice. Then a group visits Tsubasa's father's restaurant.
Yuudai wants to be independent, but he's struggling. Later, Ami starts crying when Yuudai asks her bluntly what she wants to do with her life.
Mizuki grows increasingly skeptical of Yuudai, who keeps buying things using his father's credit card. Tsubasa and Shion head to Kusatsu Onsen.
Yuudai vows to make changes and finds a restaurant to work at, while Ami makes some career decisions. The two of them go on a date in Karuizawa.
Ami and Yuudai both dissect their date with the other members. Yuudai is taken aback by Ami's attitude towards him the next day.
Mizuki spends the night in Tokyo with her old boyfriend. Shut out by Ami, Yuudai reconnects with an old girlfriend too, while Takayuki tries to help.

First there was the big city, then the tropical island, and now the winter forests and mountains of Karuizawa become the home for Terrace House: Opening New Doors. We have been burning our way through each version of Terrace House on Netflix, and this one was a monster with 6 parts made up of 49 episodes.
I think this might be the most enjoyable season for me so far. I think a big part of this is due to the incredible house in the absolutely gorgeous mountains and forests of Nagano prefecture. As a result it was a refreshing change to see the housemates snowboarding, throwing a baseball around the backyard, and generally being much more involved in outdoor activities than housemates in previous seasons. The fact that it had one of my favourite housemates and also one of the best couple get together moments of all three seasons, really made this a good time.
It did kind of drop off a bit toward in the second half, but picks up again with a series of controversies towards the very end, and all up we really enjoyed it. As I've said in reviews of previous seasons, the show is a really interesting human observation experiment. Watching these people go about their normal every day lives is oddly engaging. That and the combination of the panel, makes this something that we can watch for hours on end.
Opening New Doors is a refreshing addition to the Terrace House catalogue, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's next.
