If you just want to see characters from the show one last time, you'll have a decent enough time. But if you were looking a story that really showcases family dysfunction in the way the show did, you'll be disappointed. I'm willing to bet a lot of this comes down to logistics. It's probably tough to coordinate the schedules of so many people and I'm guessing the reason there's not many scenes with the family together stems from that. It's just I think this kind of needed that. It all felt very low stakes and there was a surprisingly low amount of family shenanigans. I'm also not sure Malcolm in the Middle should ever have a saccharin tone so I'm not sure what to think of it appearing in this a little. Still it's short and it's not like it ruins the series.
