I started out wondering if I would be able to stick with this series. The violence seemed over the top, though I suppose no worse than your typical body count action thriller. But I ended up appreciating the show much more because of its originality and its refusal to be confined to or defined by its violent underpinnings.
A few of the small plot twists were ingenious and gave the show more depth. Likewise, the portrayals of the horrible bad guys relented at times and showed them at their more human moments.
There seemed to be a few plot holes present, such as at a critical time when Janet tracked down Samuel but didn’t explain how she knew where he was. But never mind. Oddly, one aspect of the ending was really over the top for me, especially since there was no foreshadowing slipped in to prepare us for it. It could have been less extreme, I expect, and still served its purpose. But overall I give the show high marks, if you can tolerate the almost cartoonish violence at times.
