Biography
Luis Ignacio Alvirde Urive is a Mexican luchador enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler, best known as Místico. He rose to prominence in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), becoming the promotion’s top técnico and one of Mexico’s biggest wrestling stars before signing with WWE in 2011, where he was repackaged as Sin Cara. He later returned to Mexico and eventually reclaimed the Místico name in CMLL. A member of a wrestling family, Urive is the son of wrestler Dr. Karonte and the brother of several professional wrestlers. His original Místico character, introduced as the protégé of wrestling priest Fray Tormenta, became one of the defining figures of Mexican wrestling during the 2000s. Místico was ranked No. 3 in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated PWI 500 in 2007 and No. 4 in 2026. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter named him Wrestler of the Year in both 2006 and 2025, Mexico MVP in 2023, 2024 and 2025, and Non-Heavyweight MVP in 2025. He was also named Best Box Office Draw and Best Flying Wrestler during his original rise to prominence and was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 2022.
