Kalyanotsava (1995):
I watched Kalyanotsava in YouTube today. I must honestly admit that I did not like this film, because the film represents a classic case study in genre whiplash, transitioning wildly from lighthearted domestic confusion to unbridled high-octane emotional chaos.
The film opens on a familiar turf, utilizing classic comedic devices: mistaken identities, neighborhood gossip, and engineered misunderstandings. The track involving Radha staging a faux-marriage via a stray Taali and enlisting Seena and captain sets up a classic situational comedy framework.
However, the story quickly abandons its light footing to dive into heavier emotional territory.
As the story progresses toward the alliance of the captain’s daughter and the businessman’s son, the story shifts into an overdrive. The introduction of extortionate dowry demands, the forced selling of the Captain's house, and the harrowing sequence of the daughter’s sleeping pill overdose push the film into intense over-the-top drama.
The screenplay here relies heavily on classic, contrived cinematic tropes of mid 90s:

Captain who is from military unable to do such a simple thing stretches suspension of disbelief to its limits.
The escalation of climax conventions is an another major drawback where an astonishing density of conflicts are crammed into a short span like Seena's men holding police at rifle-point, the captain's wife selling her beauty parlour to her partner, who moves with a rich womanizer being part of the storyline and consuming pills to safeguard her chastity,...
